Blog log: “Pictures to charm clients”

A working drawing is a letter to a builder telling precisely what to build; not a picture to charm the client.

Browsing this post on Practical Architecture, this quote struck me. Do we, the digital design industry, too easily conflate working drawings and ‘pictures to charm clients’?

Would it be better to have greater separation between artefacts (and process) describing the vision – full of excitement, drama, romance, possibilities – and the working designs – instructions to product teams?
